PRIDE IN TRAFFORD: Celebrations to start from 17th May
Pride in Trafford’s list of events has been released.
Celebrations are due to kick off on May 17 with Trafford’s pride flag raising, and this year’s programme of performances and talks is absolutely jam-packed.
Pride in Trafford explores and celebrates both identity and LGBTQ+ life in the borough. The work aims to challenge and entertain, taking a queer art focus over a more traditional pride format.
The inaugural Pride in Trafford took place in 2019, where organisers said they were focused on a strong commitment to diversity, telling stories and celebrating under-represented artists.
The 2020 festival was reimagined as a digital festival due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This year, Pride in Trafford 2021 is scheduled to take place from Monday 17 to Saturday 22 May 2021.
The inaugural flag raising will take place International day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia on May 17 at Sale town hall.
After that, from drag queens to children’s book readings, the programme of events is incredibly diverse, with a mix of free and paid for events.
Highlights include theatre performance of comedy ‘Yours, Sincerely’ on May 18; a queer coming-of-age comedy about the complications of 21st-century communication based on real life correspondences.
Another one to watch is the Disco Tea Party on May 20 – ‘the outrageous drag gameshow’ where punters sit at tables and enjoy live drag performances, singing, prizes and a fun evening.
And Hawk Dance Theatre is also hosting a dance performance of ‘A Moment’ – on May 22, the company’s newest duet performance made specifically for outdoor and festival touring, featuring two male dancers exploring connection and departure.
With events for all ages and all the family, the full list of events and details of how to book tickets can be found here: https://www.prideintrafford.org/2021.
