GOVERNMENT ADVICE: People are being urged to only travel in and out of Bolton if essential

 

1. The Government is advising against all but essential travel in and out of areas hardest hit by the Indian coronavirus variant.

Bolton is among the list of areas as data shows the number of Covid-19 Hospital admissions has risen to 43.

The town recorded 451 overall cases per 100,000 people in the week to 20 May.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, is calling on the Government to be more clear with their advice.

2. According to latest data from Public Health England, coronavirus infection rates have continued to rise in most parts of Greater Manchester.

The infection rate has fallen in Stockport and Tameside but risen sharply in the city-regions eight other boroughs.

A total of 2,371 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on May 20.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 83.6 cases per 100,000 population - almost four times the England average (22.4 cases per 100,000 people).

3. A fifth man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering 29-year-old Rhys Thompson, who was found on moorland in West Yorkshire on 13 May.

Four men have previously been arrested and released pending further inquiries.

Greater Manchester confirmed that a 35-year-old man was arrested in Cambridgeshire on Sunday night and remains in custody.

Relatives of Mr Thompson, from Moss Side in Manchester, previously described him as "warm-hearted" and a "devoted father".
