NATIONAL NEWS ROUNDUP: Calls for PM to resign & time for “Plan B”

In your national news roundup on Thursday 9 December - Boris Johnson faces calls to resign, PM & Carrie Johnson welcome baby girl and new coronavirus restrictions announced for England as the government launch “Plan B”

Boris Johnson has been told he must resign if he is found to have misled parliament about an alleged party that happened in Downing Street last December. The Met Police has said they will not be investigating the issue due to a lack of evidence.

Baby Johnson
Elsewhere, and the Prime Minister and wife Carrie Johnson have announced the birth of their second child together. In a statement, a spokeswoman said the couple are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl at a London hospital.
The couple announced they were expecting their second child together at the end of July, as the 33-year-old environmental campaigner spoke of having a miscarriage earlier in the year.

The birth of a sister for Wilfred came the morning after the Prime Minister announced England is entering Plan B to combat the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

As well as facing Tory anger over the latest restrictions, Mr Johnson was battling the fallout of an allegedly rule-breaking Number 10 Christmas party last year which forced the resignation of senior Government aide Allegra Stratton.

Plan B
New coronavirus restrictions are coming into force as the government rolls out their plan B to tackle the spread of the virus. People have been told to work from home where possible, masks will be mandatory in most public settings and vaccine passports will be introduced for some events.
