SPORTS LOVE: Which sportsperson do you admire?

With Valentine's day around the corner, love is in the air.

It's a day that people celebrate the people they love with thoughtful gifts, a romantic meal and spending time together.

As a result, we decided to get our sports teams around the country involved in all the fun.

We asked them for their opinion on which sportsperson do they love and why do they love them?

The answers show that sometimes, athletes transcend sports.

Callum from the Everton podcast named Marcus Rashford for his off-field campaign to stop children going hungry during the pandemic.

Dawn followed his lead and went for Ian Wright as hers for the way he came from a difficult background to make it to the top of English football.

Of course, there were the expected answers as well!

Manchester United fan Cai decided on Cristiano Ronaldo from his time growing up watching the Portuguese rip it up in the Premier League.

It says a lot about his impact that even over a decade after he departed Old Trafford, he's still held in such high regard.

Whereas, Newcastle United fans Liam and Rob went for familiar faces to St James' Park.

Jonás Gutiérrez was Liam's pick, who became a cult figure at the club for his unusual celebration of wearing a Spiderman mask after scoring.

He also beat testicular cancer during his time in the North East and it was an emotional moment when he returned to the field following treatment.

Rob went for arguably the greatest player in Newcastle's history - Alan Shearer.

The born and bred Geordie joined Newcastle in 1996 despite interest from elsewhere and spent a decade at his boyhood club scoring 148 goals.

He also managed the club briefly in 2009 but was unable to save them from relegation.
