URGENT ACTION: Royal Bolton Hospital has said it is taking “urgent action” to manage surge in Covid-19 patients

1. Royal Bolton Hospital has said it is taking "urgent action" to manage a surge in patients with Covid-19. The Hospital said it had experienced "one of the busiest days ever" and urged people to attend A&E only "if absolutely necessary".

Royal Bolton Hospital said that it was also placing an "increased focus on discharges to free bed space".

2. Latest data from Public Health England shows that Coronavirus infection rates have continued to rise in most parts of Greater Manchester.

Infection rates are still rising in Bolton which recorded 452.1 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending May 21, the highest anywhere in England.

3. Bids for up to £40m in ‘levelling up’ regeneration funds are to be made to improve both Bury and Radcliffe town centres.

Following the announcement of the central government Levelling Up Fund in the 2021 budget, Bury Council is proposing to submit two bids in round one of the scheme.

The council’s cabinet has agreed one for Radcliffe and a second for a ‘flexi-hall’ to boost retail in Bury town centre.

Bury has been designated within the highest priority category for the funding.

This week the cabinet is set to approve expenditure up to £125,000 per project to support the development of the bids.

That outlay will be refunded to the council if the bids are not successful.
